A day of reflection was held this morning, about the date of 7 February, at the Concorde Night, in Jacmel, at the initiative of more than a dozen organizations, including the Alternative Movement for Decentralization and Reconstruction (MADRE), the Regional Coordination of Organizations of the South-East (CROSE), UFSUDH, JAD, KOREKOB, COCCAJ, Fanm Deside, PLASOJ. REFOJ, Front Sud’est, Sosyo pwofesyonèl, MRN etc...
The political, social, educational and professional problems that our country faces were at the heart of the debate.
Mushi Jean Baptiste, the representative of the Alternative Movement for Decentralization and Reconstruction (MADRE) in his speech said that since 1986, the regimes in power were unsuccessful, they destroyed all the dreams of our ancestors. Mushi Jean Baptiste strongly criticizes the Duvalier regime that has caused great harm to the Haitian nation. "Many of our compatriots lost their lives, the state's coffers have been emptied," he said.
The agronomist Gerald Mathurin, coordinator of the Regional Coordination of Organizations of the South East (CROSE), in his statements, qualifies as inconceivable to see the government of Rene Préval who runs the country under the dictation of the International Community. The agronomist Mathurin critical the Haitian politicians who play to defend their personal interests instead of those of Haiti. The latter clarified that the departure of René Préval as of 7 February is a prerequisite to solve the real crisis in the country.
The coordinator of the CROSE, also announced a series of concerted effort to force the head of state to leave power.
Following these activities, the day of reflection turned into a spontaneous demonstration. The participants, who were several hundred, chanted slogans calling for the resignation of the Head of State and asked for his arrest. The demonstrators have invested the streets of the city of Jacmel, launching hostile remarks against the government.
Representatives of organizations and organizing members have filed a petition signed by several leaders, in the office of the Delegation of the Southeast and in the office of the Dean of the trial court in Jacmel, a petition in which they say they do not recognize Préval as President of Haiti from February 7, 2011.
