Former Haitian President Jean Bertrand Aristide, in exile in South Africa since 2004 would be in Cuba for medical reasons, according to a statement of Inmácula Nervil, the director of the "Casa de Hermandad Haitiana Bolivariana" and member of the "Movimiento Unido Socialista Haitiano" who lobbied for the return of Jean Bertrand Aristide in Haiti.
Nervil states that advisors to the former President confirmed to him that the former president was in Cuba
Nervil specifies that advisors of the former President confirmed that the former President is in Cuba, on the recommendation of South African doctors, to receive care, because of his eye problems (he must receive his treatment in a tropical climate). Nervil [Haitian activist] recalled that the Haitian Constitution of 1987 does not recognize the exile and believes that the President Préval "has the obligation to authorize the renewal of the passport of Aristide, who is the only reason that prevents his return". He wishes the return of President Aristide on February 7, a symbolic date.
Inmácula Nervil also warned the Haitian people against the "media campaigns" and the "games of Empire" who try to make believe that the return of former president, whose Lavalas Family Party has been excluded from elections, could cause chaos in Haiti, according to him these are propaganda campaigns of the United Nations.
