Without doubt, the most important event that took place in the diaspora for the Labour Day, was held in Ranchadero, Guayubin rural area, about 60 km from the border Dajabon / Ouanaminthe where more than 2,000 Haitian farm workers have welcomed, this Sunday, May 1, the Minister Edwin Parison, holder of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), for a revealing celebration of a contrast between the problems reported by various participants relating to the respect of their rights and the joy to see the progress in organizational terms of a community that struggles for its integration and its fair value in Dominican society.

Recognizing the "existing difficulties" the Minister has urged the relevant authorities of both States, to offer a "better attention" to the situation of Haitian workers in Dominican Republic. He particularly stressed the need for a bilateral migration agreement and the ratification by both countries of the International Convention on the Rights of Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. For his part, the Father Regino Martinez, of "Border Solidarity", priest of the town of Dajabon, with nearly 30 years of accompaniment to Haitian workers, has appreciated the official gesture, recognizing his commitment, stressing however, that the island governments must support the efforts of workers to organize, while noting that the presence of the Minister Parison, "known for his activism in favor of human rights is a good sign". The religious want "the continuity of dialogue with the new Haitian authorities to jointly seek solutions to the problems of Haitian immigrants."
