Haiti - Elections : Pink Shock wave in Haiti

Haiti - Elections : Pink Shock wave in Haiti
After the announcement by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) shortly after 6pm, of the preliminary results of the second round of presidential elections, giving winner Michel Martelly (50 years) the candidate of "Repon Peyizan" with 67.57% (716.986 votes) against his opponent Mirlande Manigat (70 years) candidate of "Rassemblement des Démocrates Nationaux Progressistes" who obtained 31.74% (336.747 votes), a wave of joy "pink", of high intensity has traversed the country peacefully.

To the Champ de Mars, in front of the Palace, on the road of Delmas, of Frères passing through Petion Ville and in the height of Thomassin as in provincial towns, the crowd spontaneously invaded the streets to celebrate the victory of their candidate without retained : in Jacmel there was a carnival atmosphere, in Les Cayes and to the Cap Haïtien crowds in "delirium" have demonstrated their joy by chanting "Martelly, President". Motorists, pedestrians and motorcyclists paraded through the streets wearing T-shirts "Tet Kale" or brandishing photos of Michel Martelly. The Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) had difficulty in some neighborhoods, to contain the overflow crowd especially in Petion-Ville, the fief of the candidate.

If these preliminary results, after the challenge period, are confirmed with the publication of final results on April 16 [the inversion of this result, given the gap, and whatever the challenges is unlikely], Michel Martelly will succeed to the outgoing President René Préval this May 14, 2011.

In his first statements to the press, Michel Martelly said that this is the "victory of the people and not his own". On his Twitter account, the future President said "Mesi pou konfyans lan. Mwen fiè de tout pep mwen an. Nou pral travay pou tout Ayisyen yo. Ansanm nou kapab!" (Thank you for your confidence. I am proud of all my people. We will work for all Haitians. Together we are able).
