The former president "for life" of Haiti Jean-Claude Duvalier, nicknamed "Baby Doc", ousted from power in 1986 arrived this Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport around 5h50pm (time of Haiti) on a Air-France flight with his wife Veronique Roy and several of his colleagues.
A delegation of former officials who had served under his regime was waiting at the airport and a crowd of supporters according some corroborating sources.
Update 7:11pm Former officials of his regime, including his foreign minister and his chief of the presidential guard of the period, were there to greet him.
No ban to return in the country, prevented Jean-Claude Duvalier from returning in Haiti. Diplomatic sources in Paris confirmed his departure from France.
"I've come to help," Duvalier told reporters as he waited at the immigration office of Port-au-Prince airport after arriving on an Air France flight.
