This week, the University of Campinas (Unicamp) received a group of 40 university students from Haiti. They will take part in an exchange program for a period of 18 months for the qualification in training of human resources for the reconstruction of institutions of higher education in Haiti.
The exchange is part of a program of emergency aid to higher education in Haiti and is part of an agreement CAPES / Ministry of Education with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program offers scholarships of $750 per month for Haitian students. They will also have a Portuguese classes for foreigners by the end of the year.
In 2012, Haitians will take classes in their respective courses, such as education, social sciences, graduate degree in mathematics, and integrated degree in physics and chemistry. It is also expected that they receive a course on Brazilian culture. The group of 40 Haitians will be housed in student residences in the region of Campinas.
The Brazilian government program, envisages also the exchange of students from Haiti at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).
